What Is Spinal Decompression?
Spinal decompression therapy is a non-surgical process where the spine is stretched and relaxed in intervals. This process relieves the pressure inside the disc and has the following benefits:
- Pulls a bulging or herniated disc back into the place
- Allows healing nutrients to flow uninterrupted into the disc which creates a better environment for your body to begin healing naturally
Spinal Decompression Session
During the procedure, your spine undergoes decompression. You remain clothed throughout the procedure and lie on a motorized table that moves to manipulate your spine. A harness is attached around your hips to the table near your feet.
The upper portion of the table remains fixed and the lower part, toward your feet, slides back and forth to create traction and relaxation intermittently.
Chiropractor Gary Sannes has used the machine on many clients and can walk you through the process and expected results. The process should not be painful, although you will feel your spine stretch
Conditions Helped by Spinal Decompression
Spinal decompression is used to treat many conditions. If you suffer from back and neck pain, for example, going through spinal decompression can help reduce or eliminate your pain. It’s used to treat conditions impacting the nerves and spinal discs, including sciatica, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome, or bulging and herniated discs.
As you age, joints can erode, and this can result in spinal discs that press or pinch against nerves. Fortunately, this is often treatable without surgery or medication. Talk to your chiropractor regarding spinal decompression and whether it’s right for you.
We may also use spinal decompression for other conditions that begin in the neck or back and cause pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, or loss of sensation in other parts of the body. A physical and neurologic examination in the office will help determine if spinal decompression is an appropriate therapy for you.
